This our Turntable Spirit Level (Deep Base model) designed specifically for the job! It is imperative that your turntable is set up perfectly level. If the deck is not level, not only will tracking error and bias compensation be compromised, but the motor and main bearing will not perform optimally, causing wow and flutter as well as generating undesirable noise. In some instances, the platter is not absolutely level with the top plate of the turntable. In our view there is only one way to set the level, and that is by taking a reading from the centre of the platter, when an LP is in place. Anything else is a compromise. This is why we designed this one. The accurate 40mm diameter vial has a machined and polished acrylic base, with a centre hole for the spindle - allowing it to sit precisely where you need it to - the centre of the platter. You may see cheaper circular bubble levels advertised as turntable levels but unless they have a base allowing them to sit over the spindle, they are no use for turntables, as they have to be placed to one side of the spindle and (when an LP is in place) this does not give a true reading. Similarly tubular levels are a waste of space for this application. The standard model TSL is 60mm diameter, 19mm high and weighs 44g. It will accept spindles that project up to 11mm above the record label. If you have a longer than average spindle, you will need the Deep Base model - this will accept spindles up to 21mm above the record label, and weighs 76g. Please state which model you require when ordering - there is no extra charge for the Deep Base model, but you should only order this if your spindle requires it, due to the additional weight.

These motors have sleeve bearings at the top and bottom and the spindle rides on the bottom sleeve. If you gently move the pulley up and down you will feel a small amount of play between the two. Years ago people discovered that by making the motor ride between the two sleeve bearings (on a pad) improved sound quality by reducing motor noise. Solutions, however, using bits of plastic, springs and grease were haphazard to say the least. This motor thrust bearing is in effect a miniature main bearing, consisting of a phosphor bronze bearing shaft, housing a lubricated 4mm hardened steel ball. This assembly glues on to the base of the motor and the motor spindle rides on the ball, but does not touch the sides of the shaft. The height at which the ball sits in the shaft is adjustable by means of a grub screw, so once mounted you simply tighten the grub screw until the motor spindle is lifted off the bottom motor sleeve. The motor spindle now runs on a proper bearing - and is less noisy! This is an elegant, compact and lightweight solution. It comes complete with the allen wrench needed to adjust it. Any deck using this motor will benefit significantly - even those already fitted with some form of thrust bearing. The quieter the Turntable motor, the lower the noise floor. This is why so many purchasers comment on how much more information they hear after fitting this. You really need to have the deck upside down to fit it (or at least have the motor upside down) but it is very easy to glue it on. Incidentally, my experiments have shown that although the superglue holds it solidly in place, should you wish to remove it, it will snap off with no damage to the motor. It projects around 10mm beneath the motor, so Rega owners will need to drill a small hole in the cover plate. On a suspended sub-chassis turntable there is plenty of clearance.

The advantages of using an acrylic platter as opposed to a glass one have been well documented by the Hi-Fi press - smoother (less splashy) treble, incredibly transparent midrange and more articulate bass. It just sounds more neutral. The addition of the Platter Damping Ring improves the sound quality even further – making this by far the best value replacement acrylic platter available! We have produced this version following requests from customers - some of whom have been using two of our original Silicone mats one on top of the other, and would recommend it for non suspended sub-chassis turntables. It works great on glass, acrylic and alloy platters and is superb on direct drive decks. Manufactured in 3mm dark grey silicone, this mat is not like old style hard rubber mats - silicone is very pliable and 'floppy', so it almost clings to the platter and LP surface, giving great damping where it's most needed. One side of the mat is very smooth and this is the side to use upward in the majority of cases, as dust will not cling to it. The other side is not quite so smooth and almost 'sticky' so it really gives maximum damping if you use it with this side against the record. It does sound different whichever way you use it, so you can try it both ways and decide for yourself. Diameter is 295mm and weight is 270g. The Silicone mat can be washed in warm soapy water periodically without harming it at all. We have sold over 1000 of our original 2mm Silicone mats, and all the feedback has been very positive. The discs are 25mm in diameter and 3mm thick. As they are of a flat profile (not domed) they are brilliant for placing between loudspeakers and stands to prevent vibration being transmitted to the stand - which can colour the sound dramatically - without allowing too much 'rocking' movement from front to back. They are also excellent for placing on the plastic feet of electronic components all of which will benefit from isolation. Sorbothane has a slightly 'sticky' feel to it and the discs will happily cling to most flat surfaces so you can use them wherever you feel isolation is required.

This is suitable for all decks with two-part platters where the main platter sits on top of the sub platter - Rega's, Systemdeks, Mantra's etc. It is designed to minimise resonance from being transmitted to the main platter from the sub platter. Noise can be transmitted to the sub platter from the main bearing and/or the motor and the small isolating discs in this kit minimise this noise getting through to the main platter. It lowers the overall noise floor of the turntable and simply makes it sound better! The Adjustable Height Tripod Platter Mount Kit contains three sets of three isolating discs 1mm, 2mm and 3mm thick x 8mm diameter which should be placed equidistantly around the top surface of the sub platter as shown in the second picture. The discs are made from a specially selected polymer (beware of imitations, this is our design) chosen after many hours listening tests. The height of the platter can be raised by 1, 2 or 3mm depending on which set of discs are used giving the benefit of VTA adjustment without altering the height of the tonearm pillar.
